Q: In parts of Texas, near El Paso, the speed limit is 80 mph. Montana had a no day time speed limit. The UAE experimented with a 99 mph speed limit. The Autobahn has less accidents than any other highway. I would go for 85 mph since like 99 percent of people on the freeway go over 75 mph. What do you think?
A: Montana HAD no daytime speed limit, but put it back b/c it was causing accidents. the american road system is only designed for 75 mph travel. our road bases and surface are made less than half as thick as those on the autobahn. the road itself can't handle people, especially trucks, running at 85. besides, the average american driver isn't safe at 65. texting while driving, makeup while driving, shavign while driving, eating, drinking, smacking the kids while driving... and our driving skills are terrible comparatively to the average German driver anyway. 65 is probably the best top speed, although with shrinking natural resources and a burgeoning population, perhaps 55-60 would be best... and strictly enforced.
